This Herbal Compound Has Been Found To Cure Hangovers

A herbal compound called dihydromyricetin (DHM) found in the Oriental raisin tree and rattan tea can cure hangovers. Hangovers are caused by ethanol – the alcohol in your drinks. Ethanol is diuretic which means it increases the flow of urine, and causes you to become dehydrated (which one of the main causes of hangover symptoms).

There is an enzyme called alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) which helps break down most of the ethanol in the body and transforms ethanol into a toxic compound called acetaldehyde. And, as we drink more alcohol than our livers can handle, this toxic compound builds up causing cellular inflammation, resulting in effects like sweating, nausea, and vomiting.

So what researchers have discovered is that dihydromyricetin (DHM) has anti-hepatotoxic properties “to help detoxify our body after alcohol poisoning.” In other words, dihydromyricetin (DHM) increases the ability of two key enzymes to function (ADH and ALDH), which speeds up the breakdown of Acetaldehyde into Acetic Acid. It allows body to flush out acetaldehyde.
