PETMAN uses Protective Suits Designed for Hazardous Environments

The creepy pussyfooted thing you are seeing is an anthropomorphic robot that replicates the action of humans. The video is the demonstration of its chemical suit designed for working under hazardous environments. Also, it  shows how the PETMAN marches, looks arounds, stoops and even turns its torso – all as a part of its chemical suit’s demonstration.

It is developed by Boston Dynamics under the auspices of  US Department of Defense’s Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA). Previously, PETMAN was shown Mastering Climbing Stairs, Walking on a Treadmill and Doing Pushups.

“PETMAN has sensors embedded in its skin that detect any chemicals leaking through the suit. The skin also maintains a micro-climate inside the clothing by sweating and regulating temperature.” said their YouTube description.
