Martha: The Last Surviving Passenger Pigeon Put On Display

The passenger pigeons lived until the 20th century, when hunting and habitat destruction erased the entire species off the face of the Earth.

It’s amazing how technology has advanced over the years with humanity’s growing unethical practices of preserving the ecosystem.

As Philip Wollen said,  “We torture and kill two billion sentient living beings every week. 10,000 entire species are wiped out every year because of the actions of one, and we are now facing the sixth mass extinction in cosmological history. If any other organism did this, a biologist would consider them a virus.”

  1. You liked a few of my posts. I decided to take a look and see what you do. I am pretty impressed. Very cool posts. I particularly like this one very much.

  2. Thank you for liking “Storybook Photos.” I was also sad to learn about what happened to the passenger pigeon on the video. I have heard similar stories of exploitation of animals for their fur, feathers, or body parts over the years. Based on my experience doing some volunteer work for an environmental nonprofit, I know there have been some attempts to save various animal species from being hunted into extinction, but apparently these conservation efforts are not enough. The statistics provided by Philip Wollen are indeed disheartening.

  3. The last quarter million passenger pigeons were massacred by hunters, who knew what they were doing.
Anyone who ‘hunts’ and who like guns is truly weird.

    1. Exactly, they always know what they are doing and they do it just for fun, after all they don’t have to give a damn if some species is being extinct.

What Do You Think?
